Headline Flip turns the poster upside down. Can it turn the crowd too?

On 5 November 2026, the second edition of Headline Flip will take place at Pumpehuset in Copenhagen. An established artist opens the night, followed by Masiv, Ayla and Inga Bari. Tickets cost 210 kroner. The opening name has not yet been announced; according to the press release cited by Soundvenue, it is said to exist in the same musical universe as the rest of the programme.

It’s a clever little intervention in the social hierarchy of a concert. The support act can end up as a polite waiting room while the bar hums, friends look for one another, and attention slowly settles on the artist whose name appears in the biggest letters. Headline Flip tries to make the familiar artist the doorway rather than the destination. That’s appealing. Also because the format doesn’t pretend fame is irrelevant. It uses its weight and tries to shift it.

The star is still a magnet

For me, the secrecy also contains the format’s trickiest contradiction: the established artist is both tool and lure. I worry that anticipation will grow around the empty space, while the three main names are treated like clues in a guessing game. Who is the star? How big is the star? Is the star someone you can post about before everyone else? Celebrity logic is a magnet, and an inverted programme does not automatically make the magnet any weaker.

This time, the programme focuses on electronic music. Roskilde Festival describes Masiv’s mix of production and live drums as Copenhagen Bounce. Inga Bari is a producer trio from Aarhus, while Ayla is a singer and producer based in Malmö. These are different starting points, not three versions of the same newcomer.

I’m more curious about that difference than about the secret name. Talent is a strange word: it sounds like praise, but it also parks people in a waiting room. They’re promising. They’re on their way. They might become something. What about treating the music they’re already making as the real reason to show up?

That’s where the idea has more to offer than a clever name. A headliner doesn’t just get a different time slot. It gets the expectation that its concert is the one worth staying for. That expectation is also a resource. It can be redirected, even if you can’t decide what people will like.

The coat check becomes the real test

Headline Flip is part of Roskilde Festival’s year-round Rising initiative. Visual artist Jasmin Aiche Mahallati is also responsible for the decoration at Pumpehuset. I like the ambition of giving the evening its own frame. New names don’t have to look like guests in a bigger artist’s finished show.

The fair counterargument is strong: without the mystery, some people might never have become curious in the first place. The familiar artist can be a recommendation in living form. You can absolutely come for one name and leave with three new ones. There’s no reason to demand that the audience’s motivation be morally pure at the door.

Even so, Headline Flip will not be decided when the opening name is revealed. It will be decided in the movement afterwards. If the audience treats the established artist as the night’s secret answer and then drifts towards the coat check, the format has merely moved the headliner to an earlier hour. If they stay, listen and let Masiv, Ayla and Inga Bari be more than the price of the mystery, then the order has done something real.

On 5 November, the audience does not have to prove that they can recognise a star. They have to prove that they can stay after it has left the stage.
